MY NEIGHBOR KILLED HEYDRICH (2010)

The film tells the powerful story of 92-year-old Alois Denemark from Znojmo, a private farmer through all the regimes of the past centuries and one of the last people to have met with Reinhard Heydrich's assassin Jan Kubiš before his death. The Nazis murdered his family, he spent time in a communist prison, he lost his daughter, but he never gave in. The filmmaker has recorded Denemark's personal storytelling without any musical soundtrack, thus offering the viewer a humbling experience and encouraging him to reflect upon the facts presented. The captivating story of an hard-working farmer who, even at his age, continues to work his fields, smoke, play the accordion, and sit with friends over a glass of wine – all interspersed with archival photographs from his family albums. Miroslav Janek's intimate camera captures a profound understanding of life, nature and humanity.
