SUCHÁ HORA: A VILLAGE AT THE END OF THE LINE (2007)

A family saga from a village in Slovakia's Roháč Mountains. The Harmat family has lived in this village since time immemorial, and the lives of its members reflect the traditions, customs, and way of life of the region's rural inhabitants for the past more than 50 years. Through period photographs, film footage made by the director's mother, cinematographer Věra Štinglová, during her studies in the 1950s, and with stylized modern footage in which the locals play their parents and grandparents, the film succeeds in capturing the transformation of rural life, from traditional values to contemporary impersonal civilization. But despite all these changes, the Harmat family has preserved its sense of family and respect for traditions, which they pass on from generation to generation. The film was made in the years 2005 to 2007.
